CJBC Ride Guidlines for Riders and Leaders
Rules of the Ride
Before You Ride
- RULE 1) Be sure your bike is in good condition.
There is usually some other Club member who can make an emergency repair for
you, if needed, on the ride. However, you should make sure before starting
that your bike is in good shape. You should carry a spare tire or tube, a
pump, and a water bottle. The condition of your bike and yourself is stressed
because CJBC does not leave riders stranded at the roadside. The group will
wait while repairs are made, or a member of the group will stay with you until
you can either catch up with the group or return to the starting place. The
fewer repair stops necessary, the better time the group will have.
- RULE 2) Wear clothing which will not drag or catch in your
bike chain.
- RULE 3) Helmets are required on all club rides.
Club Rides
Note:
With each ride listing in The HUB is the Ride Classification, Terrain Difficulty,
Distance in Miles, Starting Time, Location of Start, and Ride Leader(s) with
phone number(s).
- RULE 4) Call the Ride Leader.
If you plan to join a ride, you must call the leader. Ride leaders are under
no obligation to show up for a ride if they receive no calls.
By calling the ride leader, they are will know you plan to attend the
ride, they can also provide you any special instructions regarding the ride,
and let you know if there are any special conditions you need to be aware
of.
- RULE 5) Be on Time.
The Leader will wait for a short time, especially if you called the ride leader
before the ride, but in the interest of the group, the ride should start close
to the posted start time. Allow yourself time for preparing your bike and
yourself before the start.
- RULE 6) Ride Safe.
We practice SAFETY at all times, obeying all New Jersey traffic laws. The
Leader's instructions should be followed because he/she will have done the
route before and will know the hazards in the traffic and on the ground.
- Call "CAR BACK" when a vehicle is
approaching the group from the rear.
- Call "CAR UP" for an oncoming vehicle.
Riders should point to a traffic hazard - broken glass, sewer drains, etc.-
to warn those behind them of the hazard.
